Tidelands Health to lead health sciences hub at student career expo at Myrtle Beach Convention Center next week

Tidelands Health will help thousands of eighth graders explore the range of career options in health care during a unique event in Myrtle Beach next week.

The region’s largest health care provider is presenting sponsor and pathway leader of the health sciences hub at the Pathways 2 Possibilities expo Jan. 15-16 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. About 7,000 eighth graders from the region’s 10 counties are scheduled to attend.

Presented by the Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation, Pathways 2 Possibilities offers nearly 20 career pathways for students to explore through hands-on activities and interactive displays, including health sciences, public safety, government, hospitality, information technology, aerospace and more.

As the leader of the health sciences pathway, Tidelands Health is coordinating engaging activities and exhibits to help students learn about the range of health care careers, from physicians and nurses to lab technicians, infection control specialists and physical therapists.

Students who stop by the health sciences hub can learn CPR, view X-rays, practice physical therapy techniques and more.

“Pathways 2 Possibilities isn’t your usual career fair, and that’s what makes it such a rewarding and fun event for the students,” said Caitlyn Krask, manager of student and volunteer programs at Tidelands Health. “Through a variety of interactive activities, students are eager and engaged to explore the range of career options. It’s exciting for our team of experts to share our knowledge and watch as these activities ignite a passion for health care in many of the students that we hope will lead to long and productive careers serving our region.”

The annual Pathways 2 Possibilities expo is part of a robust strategy at Tidelands Health to help develop the next generation of health care professionals. Through its McRoy and Jo Skipper Initiative for Learning and Teaching, the health system offers a variety of innovative programs for students to get a jumpstart on a health care career, including shadowing medical professionals and training in a health care setting.
