Each year, the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce selects leaders, through an application-based process, to participate in a unique 10-month experience that grants class members access to influential people and significant sites throughout Georgetown County as well as hands-on experience with community issues.
Celebrating more than 32 years of developing leaders, Leadership Georgetown County continues a proud tradition of connecting and inspiring leaders to strengthen Georgetown County communities.
The program provides a deep dive into some of the most challenging issues facing our society and allows program members to gain insight into what they can do to make Georgetown County a better community for everyone. Participants will grow as individuals, develop valuable contacts and interpersonal relationships, and prepare themselves for future leadership opportunities.
The 10-month program each September with an overnight retreat and continues through May with one full-day session per month. The community becomes the classroom as sessions are held in a variety of locations throughout Georgetown County. Each program day encourages in-depth exploration of topics including History, Economic Development, Education, Health Care, Tourism and more.
Through service projects and other programming initiatives, Leadership Georgetown County continues to shape impactful leaders who contribute to making the community a better place to live, work and play.
During the month of March, the class traditionally travels to Columbia for an overnight trip to learn more about leadership at the state level and how it impacts the local community. Each session challenges participants to enhance their leadership skills through dialogue, hearing from speakers and experiential learning.
