Tidelands Health opens new locations offering specialized care for joint pain, conditions

Tidelands Health has opened specialized medical offices in Murrells Inlet and Georgetown for people facing persistent pain in their joints, muscles and bones caused by arthritis, fibromyalgia or other conditions.

Tidelands Health Rheumatology provides advanced care to help patients find relief and improve their quality of life. Affecting the joints, muscles, tendons and bones, rheumatic conditions include arthritis, osteoarthritis, tendonitis, gout, lupus, bursitis, fibromyalgia and more.

The new rheumatology practice provides diagnosis and comprehensive care and treatment to help patients stay as active as possible. Dr. Chrysoula Pappa, a rheumatologist with more than 15 years of experience, uses advanced imaging and lab tests to diagnose the cause of pain and tailor a treatment plan to every patient’s unique needs.

“Many people can find relief from persistent pain. They don’t just have to accept it and allow it to continue to negatively affect their lives,” Dr. Pappa said. “At Tidelands Health Rheumatology, we get to know our patients and their goals then develop a treatment plan to help them return to the activities they enjoy and improve their quality of life.”

While treatments will vary based on the patient, treatment options include massage therapy, rehabilitation services including physical therapy and occupational therapy, medication and moderate exercise such as water aerobics or yoga coordinated through Tidelands Health’s affiliation as the exclusive health system partner of the YMCA of Coastal Carolina. Pain management techniques and joint replacement surgery may also be options.

“I enjoy getting to know my patients, developing a treatment plan for them and watching as their lives improve  – whether it’s through better sleep, waking up without stiffness or pain or chasing their kids around,” Dr. Pappa said.

Dr. Pappa earned her medical degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and completed her residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in rheumatology at Albany Medical College. She is fluent in Greek.

Tidelands Health Rheumatology has locations in Murrells Inlet in Waccamaw Medical Park West, 4040 Highway 17, and in Georgetown at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road.
