    News for Immediate Release:

$500,000 grant from The Duke Endowment helping Tidelands Health improve access to health care for those in need
Tidelands Health has received a $500,000 grant from The Duke Endowment as part of a longstanding partnership to improve health and wellness across the region.
The funding will support Tidelands Community Care Network, a public-private partnership that helps break down barriers to medical care for uninsured and underinsured adults.
“Every day, we see the difference Tidelands Community Care Network makes in the lives of those we serve, and that wouldn’t be possible without the ongoing and generous support of The Duke Endowment,” said Bruce Bailey, president and CEO of Tidelands Health. “The Duke Endowment has supported the network from its start and continues to provide crucial resources and funding as we work together to improve the health and wellness of our region.”
Established in 2012 with the support of The Duke Endowment, Tidelands Community Care Network connects uninsured and underinsured residents to primary care, specialty care, affordable medication, behavioral health care, dental care, transportation and more.  Since its inception, the network has served nearly 9,000 people and continues to evolve to meet the community’s needs.
“The Duke Endowment aims to improve health and reduce health disparities,” said Jay Kennedy, program officer with The Duke Endowment’s Health Care program area. “We are proud to continue to support Tidelands Health to ensure all people can access timely and appropriate health care, lead a healthy lifestyle and have their basic social needs met.”
Tidelands Community Care Network is made up of more than 40 partners representing a variety of government, non-profit and faith-based organizations that support a person’s overall health and well-being.
“The network model brings an innovative approach to helping our neighbors overcome the barriers many in our community face in accessing needed health care-related services such as transportation to medical appointments, availability of nutritious food, suitable housing and more,” said Kelly Thompkins, senior director of community health resources at Tidelands Health. “Seeing and hearing about the life-saving results of this initiative is the ultimate testament to the power of working together to help improve the health of our community.”
